My building niche sites progress is slow! An explanation

If you’ve been reading my entries it has become obvious. There are no entries and there is definitely little or no progress. On Pat Flynn’s podcast episode 12, he says to “just do things” one at a time. I suppose I must interject with an “easier said than done!” I’m definitely playing Devil’s advocate here, but Pat Flynn only works 4 to 5 hours a day which just makes his mastery of on-line business that much more amazing. I haven’t given up, but I work a 9 to 5 and making progress at a snail’s pace. I know that to break out of this little rut, I’ve established a checklist for every site with small tasks to accomplish every day. You must always keep the end result in mind. There is an amazing book called “The Slight Edge” which I found life changing, but for some reason or other, it has never really caught momentum along the lore of the must reads like Gary Vaynerchuk ’s Crush it  or Tim Ferris’ 4-hour workweek. In the book, he doesn’t re-invent the wheel. Instead Jeff Olson hammers home the idea that if you do just a little every day, you will achieve your goals. But if you don’t at least do a little bit, you

It's ok to go at a snail's pace as long as you keep going!

will actually go backwards! This is absolutely huge and true for me. Once the procrastination kicks in (In my case that being not doing at least something daily), The poison of time stagnation will kick in and the next thing you know it will be nine months later with no significant progress. I would say that there are scores of things that I need to learn that would just take this site and currently a second site into what I would consider just basic functionality. Things like learning how to add pictures, add hyperlinks, creating one click affiliate links. It is literally just the basics. What I will be doing now is to narrow down these seemingly basic tasks and define them specifically. That way, when I have my 45 minutes to an hour a day to work on this and my other site, I can check these accomplishments off and utilize that progress as a huge psychological boost towards my eventual success.

A second factor for my snail’s pace progress is my lack of any cash to invest in my internet endeavor for now.  As of now, due to being in debt repayment mode due to the immense debt I’ve accumulated, I can’t spend any money to invest in my online business. Although this frustrates and limits me, saying I’m stuck would be an excuse. There are a ton of things I can do in the meantime.  I can watch thousands of you tube videos to learn how to build headers on Photoshop. I can learn those tasks that I previously mentioned again trough you tube videos. I can look at other sites to get an idea of where I need to be.  Although honestly, doing this sometimes overwhelms me, so I strategically don’t do too much of that.

Why you should read and believe every word I write

I just did a Market Samurai search for my Long tail Keyword (building niche sites) and was stunned to see the results. The market potential for this long tail keyword buildingnichesites.com is practically worthless. The Keywords Niche Sites allone barely fare any better. It makes perfect sense then that after only a few articles, I’m already on page 2 of Google and have moved up in the rankings for this LTKW. The message is clear. I’m not updating this site for the money! Every word you will read will serve its purpose. That being that it will hopefully serve as a help in your indeavours for niche site success. In other words, this site will make no money for me wether I like it or not! It will be helpful to you and for me in that the process of learning how to develop other niche sites will allow both of us to be more knowledgeable.

Ive been dropped to #19 by Google

Ive been dropped 19 spots by Google for my long tail keyword “Building Niche Sites”. So here’s another lesson to learn. Your ranking position will fluctuate and sometimes a lot! Don’t get comfortable with the number one spot! To be honest, Ive got so little at Publish time, that  I’m actuallyhappy with a number 19 spot. I’ll catch up! But in the meantime,  a new lesson is learned. Good luck to all of you!

Google has denied my Adsense request

I suppose it is now time to ingest some humble pie. Last night I received an email from google denying my request for Google Adsense ads. So why did Google deny my adsense request. Their rationale was that my site had unacceptable content. But no!, I did not have pornography imbedded all over this blog. Instead, I just didn’t have content about the subject that was good enough to merit approval right now and I have no issues with that. I am perfectly O.K. with their decision for two reasons. Number 1, I do need to slow down and concentrate on some really quality filled content before I try to monetize. Reason #2 the real reason I have no qualms with the latest decision by

Google Adsense, is because Im going to imbed affiliate site banner ads instead. And with them, there is no approval process. So for now, Ive got a million things to do, which include a ton of content that is very necessary, come up with a thorough explanations of the toolbox for the basic creation of niche sites thereby justifying the title of this website! And third, begin making some adjustments that will make my site a little more SEO friendly.

buildingnichesites.com is #1 on google!

This is absolutely amazing! I can’t believe it. Yet another reason to celebrate. The Google gods have given me the #1 spot for the long tail keyword term “building niche sites” and I own the domain name www.buildingnichesites.com So let this be a lesson to all of you regarding the value of exact match domain names! Now I can more confidently work on building this website knowing full well that I can potentially achieve the profitability that “building niche sites” can bring me as specified on my Market Samurai research. So no, this is not somebody tooting their own horn or looking for an opportunity to say my site’s name over and over again. The real victory here is that I have marketability potential based on the Market research I have done for the keyword search “building niche sites”

So from here on, I will more enthusiastically try to enhance my the other 99% of this site, and now ofcourse, I will monitor how this site ranks for the keywords “Niche sites” for example. Becoming #1 for those keywords would put me in a greater position for reaching even higher traffic numbers if I became #1 for it. Of course, after seeing my competition, I’m a long way from getting there. But I’m not deterred. Please comment on your experiences if you’re ahead of me in your journey.

THE REAL LESSON! Udated 4-6-2012

Sometimes Google will rank your site differently based on what youve searched on your personal computer! This may not mean that you are actually ranked #1 on Google. It just may mean that google knows that your recent searches lead them into ranking your site first because they feel that you probably wanted to get to your site anyway. So more than likely, I really wasn’t #1 on Google. Now when I search for my site’s ranking, I write in the entire long tail keyword and avoid selecting what it offers as a quick link when you search. Keep that in mind. Otherwise you will be bragging to your buddies about a top ranking that dosn’t exist. Sometimes it’s a good thing to not have that much traffic on your site! LOL!

My Niche site income goal defined

Ok, so here’s a little bit of a contradictory post. But nonetheless I have to make it and it will all make sense when I’m done. I promise. This is the deal. I’ve had some trouble with an employer at a second job and I’ve been essentially hosed with pay discrepancies and a bunch of horrible accounting mistakes which have given me no choice but to quit! Of course, I’m one of those people who bit too much more than they could chew and got pulled into the real estate debacle. At times my debt has been over $150,000 but now its in the manegeable middle five figures. This by the way was done with a massive life change and the support of my beaufiful wife. It was a Dave Ramsey influenced change of path let’s call it. By the way, if you have money troubles, I highly recommend Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It is a life changing must read! Plus it’s extremely inexpensive on amazon.  Anyway, I established the goal of paying off some steep debts and made a plan with my wife and I was hell bent on meeting the deadline which was May 4, 2012. I was to pay off a 401k Loan, three credit cards, and a Personal line of credit by then. Of course the quitting of my second job has thrown a huge wrench into the path to payoff. But ahhh, not if…… Not if I can commit myself to earning the money forgone with Income earned through successful money making Niche Sites! Of course I didn’t want to include any income made this way in my earlier budgets because it seemed so vague and I didn’t want to plan anything subjective in my budget for obvious reasons. But I am compelled by a much more powerful infulence. I have no choice! And the downfall if I fail is one that I have imposed upon myself. That consequence is that I want to have my wife see me keep my word when I set out to pay all those bills by May 4! So that is my new Niche Site income goal defined! So How much did giving up this horrible job lose me in potential earnings?

I  have given up what I consider to be $2,592 dollars by the deadline. It just so happens that May 4 is exactly 100 days away! So my goal is to generate $2,592 online in the next hundred days which is aprroximately 14 weeks and two days or more accurately put, my goal is to generate an average of $25.92 a day. Wow that’s a lot of money! It is a very ambitious goal. My wife has already told me that she is willing to extend our May 4 deadline a few weeks to compensate for my quitting the second job, so don’t get me wrong, I know how extremely ambitious this goal is, but if I even come up if with a third of the money I need, I will be very satisfied because I will be armed with of 100 days worth of forced trial and error learning that will hopefully begin a lifetime of earning. Wow, can I trademark that senetence? Anyway, I hope that this explanation makes it exciting for both you and I from here on, and I encourage all of you guys to also enter into a personal challenge with written goals. Please feel free to comment about what you think and throw the good the bad and the ugly at me, I can take it.

I’m on page 3 of Google!

Aside

There’s too many sites per page to count! And yes, I do know that this is hardly a major feat, but to be honest, I find it very exciting. Let’s not lose sight of reality, I’m on page 3 of google for the search term “building niche sites” which happens to be my URL. But still, its a movement in the right direction! Yeah! I really am happy to see that!

Niche Site Monetization

I love the term “monetization”. It is so complicated sounding but I suppose it does describe something very important. I have now phased into the process of monetization. I’ve done it very early in my journey for one reason and one reason only. Motivation! Yes, I know that the likelihood that someone will read this post and then click on an adsense ad this early in the going is doubtful, but just knowing that the possibility is that much closer is very exciting! And yes, the googlebots will come soon and hopefully they won’t misinterpret this bare-bones early version of what will be greatness to be something far short of that. It’s just me jumping the gun and giving myself a huge motivation boost. Unfortunately, the actual ads aren’t showing yet, but hopefully in a couple of days they will. Of course, my decision to go with adsense as and end-all source of monetization is not final. But it is a much welcomed start to the legthy process of choosing the many strategies involved in online business. So the empy squares are actually a huge step in the right direction. That being, my quest to monetize my way into perhaps making my 9 to 5 job optional. But remember everybody! (especially those who are seeing my site in its early stages) This is a marathon not a sprint! Moreover I currently find myself in the lucky position of not depending on adsense revenue (oh wait “monetization”) to pay my bills and feed the wife and I. This sets me up in an unusual opportunity to experience the learning and building this in a way that doesn’t involve stress and it allows me to be more discerning when it comes to matters of taste in what monetization strategy I choose. Of course I’d love to be receiving thousands a month now, but its good to know that I can design my path in the ways that are going to make my experience the most enjoyable.

The first challenge!

The first challege is a huge one, and may affect the success of this whole indeavor in the first place! The challenge is to break down everything to do into bite-sized tasks. I am completely overwhelmed! Moreover, my initial searches on market samurai for niches and microniches as it were are all pretty much busts! I absolutely love the the Market Samurai training videos and FYY I feel it is an absolute must BTW. But everything I search for is missing a piece, either it is too popular and has too many competing sites, or it generates too low a cost per click, or all direct keyword domain names are taken. It is daunting and yes my motivation has dwindled. This post, althought partially informative, is just one way I’m keeping this project alive. Yes, I have to admit, my motivation is totally bi-polar and I’m starting to believe that the perfect little niches could have already been snatched-up. At least it feels that way this early in the going.

building niche sites is live!

buildingnichesites.com is live! I have many strategies for successful niche sites. This ironically is not one of them. This site is a result of an attempt to do two of the following: Create a way to chronicle my process of building successful Niche sites, and hopefully providing a helfpul resource for others to do the same. Keyword research shows that the Keyword “Niche Sites” is not a good idea in fact its a horrible choice. This goes to show that this site is built for the right reasons. Future sites I create will be made strictly for the purpose of making money. TTYL
